Research project to establish the status of electronic medical records implementation and use in and around Kampala, Uganda. The project is funded by the Rotary Foundation. This 3 year effort engages a Vocational Training Team (VTT) – Drexel University members. They are accomplished faculty from Drexel University’s College of MedicineCollege of Nursing and Health Professionals and College of Computing and Informatics. Michelle Rogers, Ph.D., was elected as the Health Care Technical Group, Chair-elect for the Human Factors Ergonomics Society (HFES). Arathi Sethumadhavan was elected as Deputy Chair-elect. Jenni Gallimore was voted as the HCTG Technical Program Chair-elect and Michael Rosen as Deputy Technical Program Chair elect. These office-bearers will take up their positions following the 2013 Annual Meeting  and will hold office until the closure of the 2015 Annual Meeting.

Michelle Rogers, Ph.D., attended the Robert Wood Johnson Foundations 7th Annual New Connections Symposium held at Princeton University. The Symposium will serve as a forum for early and mid-career researchers to network, share research ideas and hear from senior researchers and mentors.

Assistant Professor Michelle Rogers, Ph.D., of Drexel’s iSchool, College of Information Science and Technology, presenting at Drexel’s First Annual Showcase of Teaching. She is participating on the discussion panel for “Matching Pedagogy and Technology: Finding the right Tool for the Job” with Daniel King, CoAS and Kevin Owens, CoAS.

Assistant Professor Michelle Rogers, Ph.D., of Drexel’s iSchool, College of Information Science and Technology, was awarded the 2012- 2013 Christian R. and Mary F. Lindback Foundation Award for Distinguished Teaching. This honor—which recognizes Rogers’ demonstrated excellence and innovation in teaching—will be presented at the Drexel University Faculty Recognition Dinner on May 22, 2013 in Behrakis Grand Hall. She will also receive an acknowledgement at the University’s 126th Commencement Ceremonies on June 15, 2013.

APRIL 2013

Dr. Rogers is presenting at the 6th Annual Mid-Atlantic Healthcare Informatics Symposium, presented by The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia’s Center for Biomedical Informatics on April 26, 2013 at the Sheraton Philadelphia Downtown Hotel. Session presenters include nationally known informatics experts who will provide symposium participants with an inside look at the latest trends on patient engagement and personalized medicine. The inaugural Faculty Women of Color in the Academy (FWCA) Conference, April 3-5, 2013, hosted by the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. This year’s conference will focus on Issues of Politics and Scholarship, featuring prominent keynotes and panelists.
The conference will feature keynotes by Vice President and Chancellor Phyllis M. Wise; President María Hernández Ferrier; and Professor Beverly Guy-Sheftall. In addition, moderated panels featuring Vice President and Chancellor Phyllis M. Wise, President Nancy “Rusty” Barceló, and President Cassandra Manuelito-Kerkvliet, along with women faculty of color panelists from national institutions of higher education. Conference topics include Research on Women of Color in the Academy; Women of Color and Promotions: Strategies for Success; Interdisciplinary Medicine and Health; and the Economics of Being a Faculty Woman of Color: Being Prepared and Planning Ahead.

The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF), the nation’s leading philanthropy on health and health care, has awarded The iSchool, College of Information Science and Technology at Drexel University’s Michelle Rogers, PhD a 12-month grant through the New Connections program. Rogers is among a select group of Midcareer Consultants to receive one of the 12-month grants from New Connections.

9:00 AM-3:00 PM: 15th Annual Philadelphia AMP Research Symposium and Mentoring Conference
The Greater Philadelphia Region Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (Philadelphia AMP) funded by the National Science Foundation, is hosting the 15th Annual Philadelphia AMP Research Symposium and Mentoring Conference on Saturday, March 16, 2013. The Conference will be held at the Sheraton University City Hotel, 36th and Chestnut Streets, Philadelphia, PA. During the Conference, undergraduate students from Philadelphia AMP and other LSAMP Alliances will showcase their research in poster competition sessions. Special professional development activities and an oral research competition will also be available for the STEM fellowship participants. In addition, representatives will be available to provide mentoring and professional/career development for undergraduate students to transition successfully to graduate study, industry and academia. The event will also host a Graduate Fair.

9:00 AM-3:00 PM: Life Online: the Ethics and methods of Conducting research in a digital age
Drexel’s Science, Technology and Society program is hosted a free, day-long workshop, “Life Online: The Ethics and Methods of Conducting Research in a Digital Age.” Life Online will provide the chance to brainstorm about best practices, network, and hear lectures by top scholars in the area of STS.
